Finding the Moments That Define Your Event

Madeleine's Bat Mitzvah

I kicked off this year's b'nai mitzvah season in the best way possible - at a temple and reception venue I'd never photographed before and with a wonderful family. I didn't get to meet Madeleine until 2 days before her bat mitzvah when we photographed her synagogue portrait session. I was impressed with her maturity and the way she got along with her 2 younger sisters. I have two kids and I can't imagine my daughter being as kind and patient with her younger brother as Madeleine was with her sisters. There were no refusals to hug them or grimaced faces when they had to take photos all together. It gave me hope for the future of siblings everywhere.

The reception was beautiful. I've never photographed an event at the Loews Annapolis Hotel and it was a photographer's dream come true. The cocktail hour was held in a sky-lit atrium which made my job that much easier. The colors were blue and orange and they were done in such a subtle and sophisticated way - I loved how clean and fresh it looked. And the chairs. Can I mention the chairs? They were chiavari chairs - but they were acrylic. They were beautiful and I might have taken a few too many photos of them.

Electric Entertainment (my favorites!) was there to make sure the party kept going but the emcee, Blake, and I agreed that this bunch was one of the easiest groups to get on the dance floor. The adults were dancing all afternoon and they weren't just on the dance floor shuffling their feet- they were full-on dancing and grooving. The vibe that afternoon was really one of excitement and love for the Stern family.

Thank you, Jacquelyn, Steve, Madeleine, Lena and Natalie for having me photograph this special event for you. Your family made it easy and I hope you enjoy the preview:
