Finding the Moments That Define Your Event

This past weekend I shot Lucas' bar mitzvah.  It was my first one after a much needed 7-week break from shooting (with the exception of the AIPAC policy conference earlier this month).  I couldn't have asked for a better event to start back on ~ I've known Lucas and his family for about 10 years.  His mom taught my kids (or maybe just Kate? I can't remember) in preschool and since we go to the same temple and our kids go to the same summer camps and live in the same town we see the Gitelmans often. Lucas is one of my favorite kids I've photographed ~ he is silly and goofy and fun to be around.  If he was an adult I would want to be his friend; he can take my good natured teasing and give it right back.  I love that about him and it was so cool to see this boy, who I first remember meeting as a 4-year-old, celebrate becoming a man.  There was much to be celebrated at his bar mitzvah (not my story to tell but suffice it to say it was a very joyous event) and I have to admit to tearing up during Amy's speech at the reception. When you look through the images you will see how close the four of them are and how happy their family and guests were to be celebrating with them.

Thanks, Amy, Jonathan, Lucas and Hannah ~ it was a spectacular party and I can't wait for Hannah's in 2016!
