Jared's Bar Mitzvah

Jared's bar mitzvah was a welcome break from the traditional b'nai mitzvahs I usually shoot.  His parents hired me to do family portraits on Saturday evening followed by a dinner at Busboys and Poets and the party on Sunday morning at Lucky Strike in DC.  I love shooting b'nai mitzvahs and love getting shots of the hora and dancing with the DJ but this was a refreshing change of pace. Jared's family was both quiet and fun (let me clarify - Jared is quiet.  His younger sister, Ilana?  Wonderfully *not* quiet or shy!)

The dinner at Busboys and Poets was fantastic: there was a jazz trio and singer, Ilana performed an amazing tap routine and Jared got a huge plate of baked goods with candles in them to celebrate his birthday.

The party/brunch at Lucky Strike was a stroke of genius to me as I have my son's bar mitzvah date for 2017 and am struggling with what to do for a kid who doesn't want a traditional party.  Lucky Strike has bowling, of course, but there were also pool tables, a photo booth and the Cohens hired a fantastic caricature artist.  It was a relaxed, fun environment that worked for all ages and interests; I'm definitely tucking that idea in my back pocket for my son!

So thank you, Andrew, Sandy, Jared and Ilana - you treated me like one of the family and I loved working with you all; enjoy this sneak peek!
