Finding the Moments That Define Your Event

Rachel's Bat Mitzvah

I met Rachel for the first time a couple of days before her bat mitzvah. We were taking the bimah portraits during her rehearsal and my first impression of her was that she was quiet and shy. She loosened up with her parents and brother (some of my favorite shots from that day are of the four of them laughing) but never seemed to warm up to me. I chalked it up to her being 13 and quiet and shy.

I was totally wrong. At her reception, she was laughing and playing and running and having sword fights with her friends. It turns out she's only reserved when a strange woman is making horrible knock-knock jokes in a lame attempt to make her laugh (and asking her to smile and to stand a certain way). Thanks for putting up with me, Rachel - you did a great job!

The reception was held in the social hall at Temple Rodef Shalom and the crew from Events Extraordinaire created a safari theme. The kids played Coke and Pepsi and musical chairs, the adults danced, and everyone enjoyed the amazing food.

Thank you, Cheryl, Michael, Zach and Rachel - I love the playful energy of your family and hope you enjoy the sneak peek!
